Dell Debuts SMB Servers, Switches

Dell on Monday rolled out two new servers targeting small- and mid-sized businesses, and announced a trio of new switches it will deliver in the second quarter.

The PowerEdge 700 tower server and the PowerEdge 750 1U rack-mounted server both rely on the latest Pentium 4 processors from Intel, which feature the 90-nanometer Prescott core with double the amount of on-board cache.

The two single-processor servers can be equipped with Intel Pentium 4 or Celeron processors (the former up to speeds of 3.2GHz), up to 4GB of dual-channel memory, and offer both Serial ATA (SATA) and SCSI RAID options.

They can be pre-loaded with Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003, and Red Hat Linux Enterprise 3.0, and will support Novell's NetWare 5.1 and 6.5. The PowerEdge 700 can also be installed with Windows 2003 Small Business Server.

The 700 and 750, which are available now, start at prices of $699 and $949, respectively. Those prices do not include an operating system.
