Las Vegas is for VoIP Lovers

There's oodles to see at Interop this week for voice lovers. With Microsoft coming out with Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 and Avaya, Cisco Systems and others pushing their VoIP wares, booth stops there are a must. There are also a few bits that bear calling out that might otherwise be missed.

Nortel Networks is showing off its its new Secure Router 4134, an integrated router/switch with security and VoIP functionality built-in. The product takes advantage of the Innovative Communications Alliance (ICA) forged with Microsoft. Announced today with initial availability in third quarter 2007, the router integrates WAN routing, Ethernet switching, Security and IP telephony into a single platform.

Meanwhile, Avaya's new Distributed Office is designed for businesses with multiple branch offices. The SIP-based system is distributed, similar to ShoreTel's, but can also work with a central IP-PBX at headquarters. Distributed Office is available in two versions, the i40 and i120, which support up to 40 users or up to 120 users respectively. Avaya is also launching its one-x Deskphone Value Edition 1600 Series, a new line of entry-level IP phones.
