Fujitsu Introduces Five High-End Servers

Fujitsu Computer Systems announced Tuesday that five PRIMEPOWER server models are now available, aimed at mission-critical computing applications. The servers are based on SPARC64 V RISC processors, which have clock speeds exceeding 2 GHz.

Fujitsu said the servers' use of the Solaris 10 Operating System, a UNIX variant, enables the machines to be tailored to large database and online transaction use with support available also for virtualization and hardware partitioning.

The PRIMEPOWER 2500 server is the flagship of the new family of processors. Fujitsu said it has entered a 2500-based server in several competitive industry benchmarks and that the server has broken records. The company cited a high-end configuration consisting of a 128 2.08 GHz 2500 server and an ETERNUS 3000 storage system.

The servers range from two-processor systems up to and including 128-processor configurations. They are being released globally through Fujitsu Computer Systems in North America, Fujitsu Limited in the Asia/Pacific region, and Fujitsu Siemens Computers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
