Near-Time's Near-Time.net

Near-Time.net lets groups easily and securely work together on the Web through blogs, wikis and group scheduling.

Collaboration is today's buzzword. Being able to share and build on information through immediate publication allows for better groupwork and increased productivity. Near-Time hopes to cash in on the wave of early adopters deploying Wikis and blogs, especially at the smaller business and departmental levels, where its low price compared with that of the competition should work to its benefit. But free, open-source tools, such as Mediawiki, provide as much value, though their lack of support could keep less tech-savvy organizations and departments away.

The product offers the basics the vendor promises. All users can edit and immediately publish, although we would have liked to see better access-control features. The low-entry cost could help convince organizations plunge into wikis.

Near-Time.net

$49.95 to $1,999.95 per year.

near-time.net

Near-Time has transformed its collaboration products, Current and Flow, from Mac OS X-only desktop apps into a hosted, cross-platform Web offering called Near-Time.net.

The product lets small groups host shared files, maintain documentation and distribute information. It's not the most feature-rich wiki collaboration platform--that honor still goes to Atlassian Software Systems' Confluence, which we recently tested (see "Wikis in the Enterprise").
