Symantec Secures Mobile Devices

Symantec launched a new version of its mobile-security software this week that adds the same data-leak-prevention capabilities found in its desktop products.

Symantec is doing the right thing in trying to be ahead of the curve in terms of integrated protection measures on mobile devices, instead of being behind the threats as most vendors were on the desktop. Of course, one risk the company runs is that the threats don't migrate to the mobile devices quickly enough to justify such comprehensive coverage. Another possible problem is the performance requirements for an all-in-one solution on mobile devices. Many of the desktop all-in-one protection packages can cause a noticeable performance hit even on modern desktops. I'd hate to see what similar code would do on a phone.
